tom depths

what do most of you guys play? anyone play 12x8 or 12x9's here? 10x8 or 10x9's etc. do you have a preference?

p.s - weckl's site says he's recording with stern in janurary. sounds fun.

10" x 7.5", 12" x 8", 14" x 12"

I prefer the shorter depth.

I have one set that has a 12x8 and another that has a 12x9. I personally prefer the 12x8 as it's easier to position and tune. I like the shallower depths myself.

Yeah short tom are the real deal for me, and I have to say that I hate the power tom !!!

I too prefer shallow toms. The configurations of my new kit (EPEK) will be: (depth x diamiter)

5x8
7x10
9x12
11x14
13x16

Hey CL!
I sent a set of Gretsch renowns to EPEK and he cut them down for me [img]smile.gif[/img]
They're now 10x6 12x7 and 14x9 and have never sounded better. I got to meet Ed personally at his shop in Novemeber [img]smile.gif[/img]
What finish/hardware etc did you go with for your kit?

5x8, 6x10, 8x12, 10x14, 16x16, 14x22 thin Gretsch drums. Sounds HUGE. You can check out a track I posted in the "Microphone" thread.

The closer the heads are to each other makes for more resonance and use of the toms characteristics. Thinner toms make for deeper tones. Again... using the characteristics of the tom (wood, hardware, rims, edges, etc)

I use 10x9, 12x10 and 14x12, birch toms, pretty standard fusion set up I guess, ive never owned any other sizes so all i can say is that i have no complaints :-)
